ELEVATE: What made you decide to try a hair system?

CATHY: I noticed my hair was starting to thin in my late twenties, and following the birth of my two children, there was a gradual thinning progress, to the point that my hair was quite diffused, especially on the top and around my hair line. I was turning 43. I felt incredibly self- conscious and this prompted me to finally make the decision to seek out help.

ELEVATE: Why did you choose Amalia and Truly You?

CATHY: I chose them because they're leaders in their field, and as soon as you walk in the door that becomes very apparent. I liked how comfortable I felt immediately, that they deal with women almost exclusively and are very one-on-one in their approach. Coming into this process I was concerned about confidentiality when it came to treatments and was so thankful to find that Amalia and Truly You completely put my mind at ease in every way.

ELEVATE: How did you feel once the hair system was in place?

CATHY: Like a million bucks! My hair feels like it did when I was in my twenties: rejuvenated, thicker, softer and fuller. I'm no longer worried that someone is looking at my scalp when they're talking to me and that's done a lot for my self-esteem. When you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you behave differently. Growing up, my hair was my pride and joy — my crowning glory. When I began losing it, it felt like I was losing myself, and now it's like I have my life back. I haven't felt this fantastic in a long time.

ELEVATE:Are there any at-home maintenance steps to follow?

CATHY: You treat it the way you would your own hair, and I do. Other than that, I schedule regular maintenance appointments to visit Amalia, and those happen every six to eight weeks.

ELEVATE: How did you choose the appropriate coverage system for Cathy?

AMALIA: Cathy has androgenetic alopecia, and as a result had hair that was very thin at the crown of her head and along her frontal hair line. Since extensions add length and volume but not scalp coverage, they weren't an option for Cathy. A better solution was designing a custom hair system that covers the top of her head, which we refer to as our TRAPEZE program. It matches her hair colour, texture and density, and gives her the natural look she was hoping for.

ELEVATE: What does the attachment process involve?

AMALIA: There are different methods of attachment, from clips to adhering a hair system to the client's own hair and scalp. The process we use all depends on each person's individual needs. For Cathy, once she had her consultation and we determined that a custom hair piece was necessary, it was made and attached within a matter of weeks.

ELEVATE: Are there guide- lines to follow at home?

AMALIA: It really depends on the hair and method of attachment, but, generally, one would treat her hair system like her own hair. You can wash, blow- dry and style it with hot rollers, curling irons and straighteners .That said, we ask our clients to avoid too much hair spray or gels as they dry the hair, and we also remind clients that the hair system does not grow back, so they need to be careful with it.

ELEVATE: What is the average cost of these systems?

AMALIA: Cost ranges from $1,100 to $2500, depending on if we are using European or Indian hair. Normally our clients prefer Indian hair as it matches closer to their own hair and is easier to work with.
