1.Inform your doctor of your complete medical history: any allergies you have and any medications or supplements you may be taking (this includes prescription and nonprescription drugs).

2.Surgery may be dangerous if you have certain pre-existing medical conditions. Make sure you tell your doctor if you suffer from any serious health problems, including diabetes, heart disease or circulatory problems, such as high blood pressure.

3. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. These will usually include everything you need to do post surgery concerning diet, bathing, exercise, consumption of alcohol, smoking and any medication-related restrictions.

4. Have post-operative care arranged before surgery, especially for the first 24 hours after surgery. Make sure there is someone to pick you up and drive you home.
