heat therapy
Firm up with Elos
ReFirme
The latest wrinkle treatment requires no
downtime and no at-home followup. Using
a combination of radio frequency, light
and heat, Elos ReFirme Wrinkle Reduction
Treatment targets fine wrinkles at the surface
and deep wrinkles in the dermis –
without affecting the surrounding skin.
After three to five monthly treatments ($750
each treatment), you’ll see a significant
decrease in the depth and number of wrinkles.
The only precautions after a treatment are
to avoid using cleansers and creams with
alpha-hydroxy acid and to wear sunscreen
(you should be wearing at least SPF 15 every
day, anyway).
Tested by
us: In search of fewer fine lines around
her eyes, Elevate’s group publisher,
Laura Dunphy, headed to the Forest Hill
Institute of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery,
home to Dr. Sammy J. Sliwin, a Toronto cosmetic
and plastic surgeon, for her Elos treatment.
“Dr. Sliwin’s assistant, Petra,
explained everything she was doing, so I
had no surprises,” says Laura. “She
applied an optional numbing cream, which
she let set for half an hour, and then she
used the Elos machine to blast light and
heat onto my skin. I felt a prickly sensation,
but the whole session took only 45 minutes.
Afterward I was hardly red at all.” |

Five-minute

Fix-it!
Remember that solemn vow you
made last January to really start
spending time on your skin-care regime?
But who has the time for a three-step
process every night? Not us, which
is why we jumped all over the latest
anti-wrinkle find: DejaVu’s
5 Minute products. Once a day, cleanse
your skin as you normally would and
pat it dry. Then you apply DejaVu
5 minute wrinkle relaxer cream (if
you have dry skin) or serum (if you’re
acne-prone) to just your wrinkles,
gently patting it until it’s
absorbed. Wait two minutes and repeat.
Then apply your makeup or head to
bed, because your anti-wrinkle regime
is complete.

Real Peel
|
Peel
power: Last year, more than
1.5 million microdermabrasion and
chemical peel procedures were performed
in North America.
Estée
Lauder has
joined the at-home peel party with
Perfectionist Peel ($100), a two-step
enzyme-activating treatment that rejuvenates
skin and decreases the appearance
of lines, age and sunspots, while
increasing clarity and radiance, without
redness or irritation. Phase 1 is
an exfoliation treatment that contains
beta-hydroxy acid and glucosamine,
which is a derivative of sugar naturally
found in the skin. The combination
helps slough off dead skin, while
accelerating the skin’s own
natural renewal process. Phase 2 is
a green tea–infused pad that
removes the beta-hydroxy acid and
soothes the skin. After just one treatment,
the immediate radiance and exfoliation
effects are equivalent to an in-office,
30 per cent glycolic peel session.

home repair
 |
NeoStrata
Wrinkle Repair ($60)
is the latest instead-of-Botox way
to get rid of wrinkles, such as those
furrow lines on your forehead. In
a clinical test against Strivectin-SD,
NeoStrata Wrinkle Repair was 11 times
more effective at repairing deep wrinkles
and 2.5 times better at reducing all
wrinkles. Apply it under your sunscreen
during the day and alone before bed.
Tested by us: I’ve been using
this Canadian dream cream twice a
day for a month.
